"Yet to suppose that President Hoover was engaged only in organizing further reassurance is to do him a serious injustice. he was also conducting one of the oldest, most important --- and, unhappily, one of the least understood --- rites in American life. This is the rite of the meeting which is called not to do business but to do no business. It is a rite which is still much practiced in our time. It is worth examinging for a moment.
Men meet together for many reasons in the course of business. They need to instruct or persuade each other. They must agree on a course of action. They find thinking in public more productive or less painful than thinking in private. But there are at least as many reasons for meetings to transact no business. Meetings are held because men seek companionship or, at a minimum, wish to escape the tedium of solitary duties. They yearn for the prestige which accrues to the man who presides of meetings, and this leads them to convoke assemblages over which they can preside. Finally, there is the meeting which is called not because there is business to be done, but because it is necessary to create the impression that business is being done. Such meetings are more than a substitute for action. They are widely regarded as action.

Basically you should have a meeting if:

* It can't be solved by collaborating outside a meeting

* Everyone is needed to participate

* The group has authority to act

* There is a clear agenda and goals

* Someone can be the facilitator

I have found that if a meeting has all those elements than a lot can get done very quickly, rather than having ideas bounce around email or slack for weeks!

Here's a good primer on how to get away from fluoride. http://fluoridealert.org/content/top_ten/ That site is a great resource for anyone worried about fluoride.

They have a lot of lab test results for various bottled waters too. Aquafina is usually the best bottled option for most people because it's cheap and has very little fluoride. http://fluoridealert.org/content/bottled-water/ And yes, Poland Spring is pretty high, good bit of fluoride in it.

If you want to purify your water at home cheaply, a zerowater filter has been proven by customer sent lab tests to remove all fluoride (as well as everything else worth worrying about, especially aluminum). But you also need to filter your shower water (your skin absorbs 5x as much fluoride as you'll drink in a day at every shower), you can get a kit for those too. And you'll have to avoid all processed (boxed and bagged) foods as they are made with fluoridated tap water. Ease into it and don't run away like most people do when they hear that, it's not that hard to cut back at least.

Don't rely on brita or pur or some filter like that, they do nothing and actually add aluminum into the water in huge amounts. You're better off drinking straight tap. Reverse osmosis systems are mostly a waste of money, they fill up in just a few days and start passing everything through. RO lab tests are almost a fraud.

You can also get whole house fluoride systems if you have the money upfront ($$$$), and their monthly costs are really cheap compared to other options.

Brianna Kin is with Roger Ingraham and Josh Steinbauer.
Roger & I were just discussing Tony Robbin's idea of the Six Core Human needs & relating them to needs within partnership.

• Certainty: the need for safety, stability, comfort, order, consistency
• Variety: the need for challenge, change, adventure, surprise, excitement, chaos
• Significance: the need for stature, meaning, pride, sense of importance
• Love & Connection: the need for intimacy, communication, validation, attachment, being loved and loving
• Growth: the need for emotional, intellectual, & spiritual development
• Contribution: the need to give beyond ourselves, to serve people and life

All of these aspects ring very true and important in my nature. We came to realize the two highest on the list of needs for each of us in relationship which was an interesting process of reflection.

Certainty is the one for me which is paradoxically closely tied to variety. Variety - in terms of dynamism and adaptability to switch worlds & energies together in harmony is something I definitely need to keep my spirit alive & avoid boredom, but the CERTAINTY is the container to hold it all safely. Variety without the safety/commitment/ground is chaotic to my being. I need that safety before anything else; that is the ground to allow all other needs to live & grow & be full.

Love & connection is number two for me - stoking the fires of passion, sharing in deep waters, thorough communication, a deep peer into another human; the real and the raw. Intimacy is an unveiling. It is the beautiful, soft & intense allowance of seeing into another being, and allowing your self to be seen. Which accentuates the aspect of growth that is also vital to the soul. To share deeply- in mind, body, soul, heart is an opening to see the real stuff, paving the way for self-growth which is celebrated and heightened within partnership when the container is set for it.

Roger's top two needs are growth & love and connection. Fuck yes. All about it. Blessed.

What are you highest needs? How are you meeting them within yourself and/or in relationship?

<3 With love in my heart.

Removing lighttpd

Removing lighttpd

Until now, hike has relied on lighttpd for its dev environment.

I am now looking for solutions to replace it, due to two circumstances.

One is that lighttpd now enables, by default, an option called "url-ctrls-reject", which disallows any URLs with percent-encoded characters, which breaks HTTP spec as well as hike.

Two is the extreme rudeness demonstrated by "gstrauss" when answering another user's questions about this.

In particular, it was these statements that are forcing my hand:

> please ask a friend to help you understand English

> Do you even read lighttpd's front page?

> How small a spoon do you need to be fed with?

> Your statement [...] demonstrates to everyone with a clue that you do not have one

I was there a couple of weeks ago and how the news is reported here in the UK is not the whole story of what is happening there. The protestors are being made out to be violent and rioting for the sake of it. The police are attacking them when they are protesting peacefully and then they are retaliating and it is being escalated to these extremes. All they want is fair democracy, police brutality looked at, and the extradition bill scrapped. Personally I think we should be standing with them and not just giving into China’s power. If they aren’t stood up to then eventually we will be the ones under the thumb.
